Seychelles Government
Seychelles Government -
Constitutional restrictions, introduced after the 1977 coup, on political organisation outside the then-ruling SPUP were lifted during 1991. The president holds executive power, while legislation is in the hands of the National Assembly, presently comprising 34 members, 25 directly elected and 9 allocated on a proportional basis. Both the president and the National Assembly are subject to direct popular elections every 5 years.
