Tunisian Dinar (TND) = 1000 millimes.

Notes are in denominations of TND30, 20, 10 and 5.

Coins are in denominations of TND1, and 500, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 millimes.

Currency exchange

Banks change money, as do most hotels of 3 stars and above.

Credit & debit cards in Tunisia

MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, and Visa are widely accepted. Please check with your credit or debit card company for the details of merchant acceptability and other services available. There are ATM's in the large towns and tourist destinations.

Travellers cheques

Readily cashed in banks and the usual authorised establishments, in order to avoid additional exchange rates, travellers are advised to bring traveller's cheques in US Dollars.

Currency restrictions

The export and import of local currency is strictly prohibited.

The import of foreign currency is unlimited and the export of foreign currency is limited to the amount imported, though re-exchange of local into foreign currency must be only up to 30% of the total imported, up to a maximum of TD 100. Currency documentation must be maintained.

Monday to Thursday 8.00 am to 11.00 am and 2.00 pm to 4.15 pm, Friday 8.00 am to 11.00 am and 1.00 pm to 4.15 pm (in the winter).

Monday to Friday from 7.30 am to 11.30 am (in the summer).
