Hot tropical weather
which varies from region to region. The Coolest weather is
between December and February, with cool, brisk mornings
and evenings, and sunny, dry days. Extremely hot weather,
when it is dry, dusty and unpleasant, occurs from March to May.
Monsoon rains occur in most regions in between June and September.
Western Himalayas
Srinagar is best between March and October; July to August can be
unpleasant; cool and damp in winter. Simla is higher and therefore
colder in winter. Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Manali are often under numerous
feet of snow (December to March) and temperatures in Ladakh can
be very cold. The road to Leh is open between June and October.
Recommended clothing
Light- to medium weights is recommended between March and October,
with heavier clothes for winter. Weather can change very quickly
in the mountains and therefore it is advisable to be suitably equipped.
Waterproofing is recommended. Northern
Plains
Extreme climate, warm inland between April and mid-June, falling
to nearly freezing at night in winter, from November to February.
Summers are hot with monsoons from June to September. Required
clothing
Light cottons and linens in summer with heavier clothes in winter
and on cooler evenings. Waterproofing is highly recommended during
monsoons. Central India
Madhya Pradesh State is spared the worst part of the hot season,
but monsoons are heavy from July to September. Temperatures fall
in the evenings during winter. Required
clothing
Lightweights are worn much the year with warmer attire at night,
particularly in winter. Waterproofed clothing is recommended during
monsoon rains. Western India
From November to February is most comfortable, however, evenings
can be pretty cold. Summers are usually extremely hot with monsoon
rainfall from mid-June to mid-September. Required
clothing
Lightweight cottons and linens are worn much of the year with warmer
attire for cooler winters, and waterproofing is highly recommended
during the monsoon. Southwest
The nicest weather is between November and March. Monsoon rains
fall between late April and July. Summers temperatures are not as
high as Northern India, however, humidity is extreme. There are
pleasantly cooling breezes on the coast. Inland, Mysore and Bijapur
have pleasant climates with low rainfall.
Recommended clothing
Lightweights are worn year round and warmer clothes for cooler nights,
especially in winter. Waterproofing is strongly advised during the
monsoon. Southeast
Tamil Nadu endures a northeast monsoon from October to December
and temperatures and humidity are high throughout the year. Hills
tend to be cold in winter. Hyderabad is hot, but not too humid in
summer and much colder in winter. Required
clothing
Lightweight linens and cottons. Waterproofing is recommended during
the monsoon. Warmer clothes are needed the winter, especially in
the hills.
Northeast
March to June and September to November are the driest and most
pleasing times of the year. The rest of the year has very heavy
monsoon rainfall and it is advisable to avoided the area.
Required clothing
Lightweight linens and cottons. Waterproofing is recommended all
year and essential during monsoons, normally from mid-June to mid-October.
Warmer clothes are recommended for cooler evenings. |
