Note
(1) Muslim festivals are timed following
the sightings of diverse phases of the moon and dates given above
are approximations. During the lunar month of Ramadan that precedes
Hari Raya Puasa, Muslims fast during the day and feast at night.
Normal business patterns may be interrupted. Many restaurants are
close during the day and there are restrictions on smoking and drinking.
Some disruptions may continue into Hari Raya Puasa itself and Hari
Raja Haji may last from 2 - 10 days, depending upon each area. For
more details see the World of Islam appendix.
(2) Buddhist festivals are also timed according to phases of the
moon and variations occur. |
