This area of Myanmar
provides great chances for walking and rock-climbing,
and a number of hill stations including Kalaw offer a pine-forested
retreat from the humidity and heat of Yangon. The lake and
caves at Pindaya are very well known; the caves house thousands
of Buddha images. The Padah-Lin Caves which contains prehistoric paintings is located close to the village of Yengan.
Situated on the Shan Plateau, the Inlay Lake is popular for
its floating gardens and leg-rowing fishermen. Maymyo is
an attractive British hill station to the north, with beautiful waterfalls
and a delightful climate because of its high altitude.
Difficult communications normally prevents visits to the largely
tribal Northwest. A large number of Myanmar’s minority people live here. |
