Air
Myanmar Airways International (UB) is Myanmar's national
airline.
Yangon has direct air connections with Singapore, Bangkok, Bangladesh,
Jakarta, Kunming, Calcutta and Moscow.
Airlines serving Myanmar are Air China, All Nippon Airways,
Air France, Bangladesh Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Malaysian
Airlines, Indian Airlines, Thai Airways International, Lufthansa
and Silk Air. International
airports
Yangon (RGN) is located
19 kilometres or 12 miles from the city.
Facilities
available at the airport are bar, restaurant, snack bar, post office, bank, duty-free
shop and tourist information.
Buses operate service
to the city with journey time of approximately 30 minutes. Taxis are also
available and journey time is about 45 minutes.
Departure
tax
US$10 tax, also payable in FECs (Foreign Exchange Certificates;
see Currency section for details). No
charges for the passengers in direct transit. Sea
Cruise ships call at Yangon Port. Road
Overland crossing with a border pass is, in theory, allowed at the
following border check-points: Kyukoke,
Namkhan and Muse located on the Myanmar-Yunnan (People’s Republic
of China) border. Tachileik,
Myawaddy and Kawthaung located on the Mynamar-Thailand border.
Foreigners are only
permitted to travel as part of a tour group. Due
to ongoing political instability, borders may recurrently close.
