Yangon is the
capital and gateway to Myanmar. The many shady and beautiful
lakes have garnered it a reputation as the "Garden City
of the East". The grand colonial-style buildings of Yangon,
its busy street-market and wide tree-lined avenues, offer an exciting
combination of old world charm and modern vitality. Yangon
is home to a large reclining Buddha, (Chauk Htat Gyi), the
Royal Lake the most beautiful pagoda in Asia; the Shwedagon.
The beginning of your journey will be Yangon, as all airlines serving
Myanmar fly to Yangon International Airport. A one-night
stay is advised prior to departure up-country and one night at the
end of the trip in Myanmar.
A minimum half-day of sightseeing in Yangon is recommended - the
highlight being, of course, the Shwedagon Pagoda. A shopping
excursion to Boyoke(Scott) Market, which is closed on Mondays
and Public holidays. |
