Nepal’s weather is usually expectable and pleasant.

There are 4 seasons:

 March–May (spring)

 June–August (summer)

 September–November (autumn)

 December–February (winter)

The monsoon season is during the end of June and the middle of September. Around 80% of the rain falls during this period, and the rest of the year is dry. The best seasons are spring and autumn. During the winter, the temperature goes down to freezing with a large amount of snowfall in the mountains.

In summer and late spring, the temperature can be between 28ºC or 83ºF in the mountainous regions and more than 40ºC or 104ºF in the Terai plains. In winter, the average minimum temperature is a brisk 7ºC or 45ºF while the maximum temperature is a mild 23ºC or 74ºF in the Terai. The central valleys encounter a minimum temperature falling below freezing point and a cool 12ºC or 54ºF maximum. Colder temperatures prevail at higher elevations. The Kathmandu Valley, at an altitude of 1,310 metres (4,297 feet), has a milder climate, ranging from 19-27ºC or 67-81ºF in summer to 12-20ºC or 36-68ºF in winter.

Recommended clothing

Lightweight and tropical clothes, and umbrellas are recommended when travelling within Nepal from June to August. From October to March, lightweight clothes can be worn in Kathmandu, and a coat for evenings and warm clothing for the mountains.
