A brief introduction to the Philippines:
The Philippines sit off the southeast coast of Asia between Borneo
and Taiwan. Set in between the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea,
they consist of 7,107 islands and islets (7,108 at low tide). The
clear blue sea is ideal for sunbathing, swimming and diving through
impressive coral gardens and amazing marine life.
The largest and most northward of the main islands is Luzon.
It has spectacular mountains in the north, flat vistas in the central
plain and lakes, and volcanoes in the south. The capital, Manila
has been a port for many centuries. Some tourist attractions are
San Augustin Church and the Manila Cathedral
with terrific views of the harbour. Just off the coast of Pangasinan
is an ideal place for swimming and fishing. There are a hundred
islands made up of 400 islets, encircled by coral gardens and white
sandy beaches. Mindanao is the most southward
island, and has a completely different feel from the rest of the
Philippines. Zamboanga City in the southwestern edge is considered
to be one of the romantic places in the country. It is a popular
resort among holidaymakers. The city is known for its vast array
of seashells, unspoilt tropical landscape and beautiful flowers.
Some famous local dishes are oxtail stew in peanut sauce served
with bagoong (kare-kare) and sinigang
(meat or fish in sour broth). Performances by native artists in
the various venues take place most nights. A number of the larger
hotels provide music spectacles ranging from string quartets to
show bands. |
