Food & Drink

Hotels and restaurants serve trout from the streams and lakes of the Snowy Mountains, whilst the beef and lamb come from farmlands surrounding Canberra.

The assortment of cuisine available in Canberra is impressive, with over 300 restaurants offering food from all corners of the world, from Austria to Zanzibar.

A wide variety of goods, including Australian arts and crafts, is available from specialist shops and department stores. Galleries and museums are somtimes open outside normal trading hours.

The shop opening hours for most shops in the city are Monday to Wednesday 9.00 am to 5.30 pm, Friday 9.00 am to 9.00 pm and Saturday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Despite the daytime neatness, nightlife is actively promoted by the large range of restaurants, nightclubs, pubs, acoustic venues and jazz, piano and wine bars. There are many film shows and also a boutique casino.
