Kampot
Kampot is the river town, just 5 kilometres from
the sea and serves the very well-known seaside resort of Kep. Once
a chic resort of the French elite, was known
as La Perle de la Cote d' Agathe which has
beautiful offshore islands and a stunning bay. One of these islands is owned by King Sihanouk and he would use
it for entertaining his guests.
This area is known for its foul smelling fruit as well as durian and it is also considered by some as having
the best seafood in the country.
Sihanoukville Kompong
Som)
Kompong Som is Cambodia's only maritime
port. It is 232 kilometres from Phnom Penh and
reachable by 1 of the better inter-provincial roads in the country.
Kompong Som is also known for its picture-postcard tropical
beaches.
Located on a headland, visitors can choose from a variety of beaches,
many of which can often remain completely deserted. The more popular
ones are Ochatial beach and Sokha
Beach due their proximity to the town.
The local fishermen can take visitors to any of the islands
close by where there are the coral and various tropical fish, ideal for
snorkeling, diving, and fishing.
Its well worth trying the freshly caught crab, shrimps and other
seafood the area has to offer.
Established in 1964, the resort can be visited all year round
to enjoy the cool breezes, warm sands and blue skies.
Bokor Hill Station
Many of the French elite, un-accustomed to the heat of Cambodian
summer, retreated to the Bokor Hill Station sited within the Elephant Mountains. At an altitude of just
over 1,000 metres it is renowned for its clear streams, climate and peaceful surroundings.
Many a visitors is taken in by the panoramas, forested
vistas and breathtaking views of the sea.
The ideal time to visit is from November to May. |
