Geography

The Canary Islands are situated off the northwest coast of Africa and consist of 7 islands which are divided into 2 provinces:

  Las Palmas comprises the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

  Santa Cruz de Tenerife is made up of Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro.

All the islands are of volcanic origin with a subtropical climate. The landscape is quite varied, and includes mountain ranges, valleys, deserts, cliffs, craters and forests.

Religion

There is no official religion, but the majority of the population is Roman Catholic.

GMT (GMT + 1 from last Sunday in March to Saturday before last Sunday in October).

Electricity

220 or 225 volts AC, 50Hz. Generally, round two-pin plugs and screw-type lamp fittings are in use.
