Pros: Barbary Macaques Apes, cable car trip
Cons: none
Gibraltar, Gibraltar

After taking the ferry from Tangier back to Spain we decided we couldn't let the opportunity go by of not seeing Gibraltar as it was quite close. Gibraltar is still a British colony (of over 300 years) and more British than the British!! You suddenly re-enter a world of bobbies, double decker buses and high prices in British currency. The town is a narrow stretch of shops in the shadow of the giant rock.
The highlight for us was the Barbary Macaques Apes which are the only wild primates in Europe. They are so cute and cheeky and on several occasions jumped onto Heather's head. They don't have tails like other sorts of apes/monkeys and live on the upper reaches of the rock. Given we were only doing a quick trip we took the cable car up to the top and back of the rock rather than hike.
The views from the upper rock were spectacular and we had perfect weather for seeing the views.
After a day and a night we headed back to Spain and caught a rather long bus ride back up to Madrid where we were able to reconnect with busabout and head back into France.
