Many doctors and dentists are in private practice and patients are
required to pay for any treatment by a GP. This can be at the surgery,
at a temporary residence or in the Accident and Emergency Department
at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital (PEH) which is operated by the
Board of Health, as these services are provided
by GPs in private practice. However, the Reciprocal Health
Agreement only provides for immediately necessary treatment,
such as urgently needed treatment for conditions which may arise
during a visit. Hospital accommodation and medical services are
provided free of charge to UK visitors under the
act. There is also a charge for the ambulance service.
