The Jamaican Dollar is the official currency in Jamaica.

1 Jamaican Dollar (JMD) = 100 cents

Notes are in denominations of JMD $50, 100, 500, 1000.

Coins are in denominations of JMD 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20. Also 10 and 25 cents.

Currency exchange

Money can be exchanged at the airport as well as at hotels, banks and bureaux de change. Receipts must be retained, as exchanging money on the black market is illegal. There are ATM's all over Jamaica.

Credit & debit cards

Diners Club, American Express, MasterCard and Visa are all widely accepted. Please check with your credit or debit card company for details of merchant acceptability and other services which may be available.

Travellers cheques

To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take travellers cheques in United States Dollars.

Currency restrictions

The import and export of local currency is prohibited, that of foreign currency is unrestricted, however subject to declaration.

Banking hours

Banks are generally open Monday to Thursday from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm, Friday 9.00 am to 12.00 pm and 2.30 am to 5.00 pm.
