A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers over 1 year of age coming from countries with infected areas.

Health care

Health insurance is advised, since medical treatment can be expensive. There are 16 public and 6 private hospitals. Standards vary immensely.

Food and Drink

Mains water is generally chlorinated and, whilst relatively safe, may cause mild abdominal upsets. Bottled water is accessible. Dairy products are safe for consumption and milk is pasteurised. Local meat, seafood, poultry, fruit and vegetables are generally considered safe to eat.

Other risks

Hepatitis A occurs in Jamaica. There is a high prevalence of HIV / AIDS and precautions should be carried out to avoid exposure.
