Hai Whan

Situated in the exclusive Ginza district, Hai Whan offers progressive Cantonese haute cuisine in beautiful surroundings reminiscent of an imperial banquet hall. Seafood is the specialty here and the chefs pride themselves on the freshness of their ingredients, which vary seasonally from abalone to lobster, sea bream or crab. Unique seasonings are incorporated into many dishes and the Chinese-style sashimi is a refreshing and delicious addition to the menu.

La Tour d’Argent

Considered by many to provide the absolute finest French dining in Japan, this Akasaka branch of the famous Parisian restaurant offers classic cuisine in a dramatic setting of period opulence. The wine list is contains a superb selection. The exquisite and seasonally based menu usually features carpaccio with caviar, roast pigeon with fresh truffles or the restaurant’s renowned roast duckling.

Nobu

Amid the trendy decor of artworks, exposed brickwork and huge pink rose emblems, the ‘New Japanese Cuisine’ of famous chef Nobu Matsuhisa has arrived in Tokyo’s exclusive Aoyama district. Nobu’s skillful blending of traditional Japanese ingredients with New World flavours produces exquisite signature dishes such as black cod with miso, squid in light garlic sauce and the excellent ‘new-style sashimi’. For a culinary adventure, the omakase course (chef’s tasting menu) is highly recommended.

Spago

Wolfgang Puck’s Spago is among the originators of New American cuisine and the Tokyo branch will not fail to please. The ambience is classic Californian – airy and bright with a cheerful terrace of flowers. In addition to the famous gourmet pizzas, creative entrées, such as prime rib steak with jalapeño garlic gravy sauce, are superb, as are the Californian wines.

Takamura Price: ¥25,000
Offering kaiseki (Japan’s haute cuisine and an art form in itself), Takamura creates a traditional Japanese dining experience not soon forgotten. Seated in one of eight relaxing tatami rooms overlooking Japanese gardens, guests are served a succession of intricately prepared dishes, such as delicate slices of sashimi or quails eggs, each item seasonal and beautifully displayed on the finest of Japanese ceramics. Takamura is situated on a wooded hill and appears to be a world away from the bustling city below. Reservations are required.
