Jordan is a country which has a constitutional monarchy with a bicameral legislature. The House of Representatives has 80 members elected by universal adult suffrage for a 4 year term.
The 2nd chamber, the House of Notables, has 40 members appointed by the king for an 8 year term. Executive power is held by the king, who rules with the assistance of a Council of Ministers. Until 1988, the Israeli occupied West Bank was considered to comprise 3 of Jordan’s 8 administrative provinces. |
