Air
Island Aviation Services operates domestic air services, connecting
Male with Kaadedhdhoo, Kadhdhoo and Gan. Flights to Hanimaadhoo
in the north are also available; however, these islands will not
be on most visitors’ itineraries.
Many companies provide twin-otter and float planes around Maldives
for guests. Transfer from the airport to the resort islands is an
optional extra on the tour. These services are also offered for
journeys around the islands.
Sea
Travellers usually stay on their resort island for the extent of
their stay; however, island-hopping by ferries are usually available.
Local charter boats are widely available for hire. Speed boats pick
up arrivals at the airport, provided by the resort they are reserved
through. Boats are also available for hire at the ferry counter
near the jetty area. The speedboats link the airport with Ari Atoll
and some faraway islands. The native people, however, are interested
in things that affect their local area and tend only to travel to
Male, and even then irregularly.
Road
Travel on individual islands is not a problem since few of them
take longer than 30 minutes to cross on foot. In Male, taxis are
