Still in the Male (Kaafu)
Atoll, but to the south of the airport, are an additional set of
resorts. Note worthy among these are Biyadhoo and Villivaru,
which are located 33 kilometres or 21 miles from the airport. Both are managed
and owned by the Taj Group from India.
Coco
Island
The neighbouring Coco Island only has 8 two-story thatched huts,
all are beautifully decorated and furnished. Private groups can
rent the whole resort.
Veligandu
Huraa (Palm Tree Island) and Dhigufinolhu
East of Coco Island, a causeway links these ‘twin’ islands
across the lagoon. The latter is the livelier of the two, with more
rooms and more entertainment opportunities. Veligandu Huraa
provides private bungalows and a more quiet surrounding. They are only
a short walk away from each other if one feels the need for a change
of mood.
Kadooma
Kandooma lies South of Coco Island, here chalet-style accommodation is surrounded by flowering gardens. Journeys can be arranged to the neighbouring
fishing village.
Bodufinolhu
(Fun Island)
Situated on the southeastern reef of South Male Atoll, this
island is circled with a huge lagoon and linked to 2 uninhabited
islets, which can be accessible on foot at low tide. Each room faces the beach and provides en suite bathroom, DD telephone, air conditioning
and hot and cold desalinated water.
Embudu
Village
The resort is 11 kilometres or 7 miles from the airport in South Male Atoll, providing 72 air-conditioned bungalows, 36 non-air-conditioned bungalows
and 16 deluxe bungalows built over the lagoon. It features a house
reef including the 2 ship wrecks, caves and drop offs.
Vaadhu
Vaadhu is a diving paradise, located on the northern end of South
Male Atoll and approximately 45 minutes by taxi boat and 20 minutes
by speedboat from the airport. It boasts a fully-equipped diving
school, 31 cabana-style guestrooms and freshwater showers. A high level
of capital investment has been made in the resort. |
