Despite its conservative tone and decor, this sophisticated silver service restaurant is a favourite, and has existed in Auckland for 27 years. Antione's restaurant is known as one of the best French restaurants in the country. Located only 10 minutes from the city centre, the restaurant offers many e splendid dishes. The particularly popular dishes include the wonderful salmon dishes, tripe dishes and duckling, all from fresh New Zealand produce but cooked with Gaelic flair. The menu changes every week.

Hammerheads Seafood Restaurant & Bar	Price: NZ $65 Wine: NZ $18.
This is a very popular waterfront restaurant which has a balcony, where it pays to be seen. Views of the Auckland skyline and harbour complement the restaurant’s natural style. It has a reputation for slow service, however the food is well worth the wait , and the cocktails are said to be dynamite. Specialties include very fresh fish and shellfish, with some poultry, lamb and beef dishes, although visitors are advised to go with the well known fish.

Otto's	Price: NZ $80 Wine: NZ $25.
Once a magistrates court, this beautiful building is now one of the premier restaurants in the city, with tasteful decor and loads of potted plants. The food is catholic in its influences and melts on the taste buds. The duck confit, dressed in coconut and palm sugar, is a favourite, as well as the seared venison with onion ravioli.

Sake Bar Rikka	Price: NZ $65 Wine: NZ $20.
This is quite simply known as the best Japanese restaurant in town, decorated with wall hangings and gleaming clean surfaces. Dishes include a dazzling variety of sushi, chicken teriyaki, miso and a never ending tempura platter with hot sauce and pickled ginger, all washed down by authentic sake.

Possibly Auckland's finest Italian restaurant, this open and airy, opera filled room (with live opera on Thursday and Saturday) leads to a sunny terrace where it is good to be seen eating at the white clad tables. The ripieno (stuffed breads) make mouth watering appetisers and the roasted scallops and lobster are delicious choices.
