The restaurants are
listed alphabetically within the above 5 categories. These categories
are an overall guideline, rather than an exact definition of the
establishments.
Many of Auckland’s restaurants operate as bars, cafés,
music venues and nightclubs, as well as serving food. They generally
do not have a pre book service, and when they do, they rarely book
far in advance. Many do not readily give out email addresses, fax
or telephone numbers.
Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be stated on the menu, indicating
whether it is included in the price or not. In the vast majority
of cases, GST will be included as a percentage of the total bill,
and is currently 12.5%.
Tipping is seldom included in the bill and until recently was
unexpected, in fact it was even frowned upon. Globalisation has,
however, led to a more ‘American’ attitude and it
is now advisable for visitors to tip 10% to 15%, however only
if the service is good.
The prices quoted with each restaurant guideline are for an average
3 course meal and a bottle of house wine. These prices include
VAT but they do not include service charge or tip. |
