The New Zealand Dollar is the official currency in New Zealand.

1 New Zealand Dollar (1 NZ$) = 100 cents.

Notes are in denominations of NZ$5, 10, 20, 50 and 100.

Coins are in denominations of and 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents. There are also coins for NZ$ 2 and 1.

Currency exchange

There are many currency exchange facilities throughout New Zealand.

Credit & debit cards

The widely accepted cards are Visa, American Express, MasterCard and Diners Club.

For details of merchant acceptability and other information that may be available, check with your credit or debit card company.

Travellers cheques

Travellers cheques can be exchanged at large hotels, trading banks and a few shops, however these will be exchanged at official rates.

To avoid additional exchange rate charges whilst using travellers cheques it is advisable to take them in US Dollars, Australian Dollars or UK Pounds Sterling.
