Geography
Some key geographical facts:
The Sultanate of Oman fills the south eastern tip of the Arabian
Peninsula with almost 1,700 kilometres (1062 miles) of coastline
stretching along the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf
Oman
is bordered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the west.
The Republic of Yemen lies to the south. The
United Arab Emirates lies to the north west of Oman To
the east of Oman is the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
Government
Oman has been Sultanate since 1744.
The Head of State and Government
is Sultan Qabus bin Sa’id since 1970. Language
Arabic is the official language, however English
is widely spoken. Swahili is also spoken by the inhabitants from
East Africa. German and French are also spoken by some hotel staff.
Religion
The religion is predominantly Ibadi Muslim, with Shi’ite Muslim,
Sunni Muslim and Hindu minorities. Time Zone
