Lisbon airport, which
celebrated its 60th birthday in 2003, has undergone a massive renovation
over the last decade. It is located 7 kilometres (4 miles) north
of the city. Portugal’s busiest airport, Aeroporto de Lisboa,
served over 9 million passengers during 2001.

Airport facilities Money and communications
Facilities include a bank and a post office in the Departures area
and bureaux de change in both the Departures and Arrivals areas
and ATMs situated throughout the airport. Eating
and drinking
A wide range of restaurants, snack bars, cafés and fast-food
outlets are available in the Departures area. Shopping
There are shops, including a duty-free. Luggage
A left-luggage facility is open daily on the level 2 of car park
P2. The lost property office is in the police office, in the Departures
shopping area (telephone number: (0)21 849 6132). Other
facilities
An insurance desk is located at the check-in area. Baby
care areas, a first aid room in the Arrivals area, and showers at
the Departures boarding lounge. Disabled
Facilities
There are ramps, lifts, specially adapted telephones and toilets
available in the terminal. Wheelchairs can be provided by airlines
and airline staff can also help wheelchair passengers through customs
and immigration, passengers should request any special assistance
when booking a ticket. Disabled car parking spaces are also available.
There are 2 lifts to take passengers to different levels within
the airport. Business facilities
There are CIP (Commercially Important Persons)
lounges available to first and business class travellers on Air
France, British Airways, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa,
Portugália and Varig.
The Icaro Lounge, Apolo Lounge and Ulisses
Lounge, located on level 2 of the Arrivals area, can provide
basic facilities including Internet, payphone and fax. Conference

Information counters are located in the Arrivals and Departures
halls and at tourist information counters in the Arrivals hall.
Driving Directions
To reach the airport from the north, take the A1 Oporto/Lisbon
motorway and then the 2ª Circular.
From the south, cross the Vasco da Gama bridge,
and take the 2ª Circular. From Cascais/Estoril, take the A5
motorway, then CRIL (IC 17) and then the 2ª Circular.
From Parque das Nações, take Marechal Gomes da Costa
avenue to the Rotunda do Relógio, then the Alameda das Comunidades
Avenue Dr Alfredo Bensaúde to the 2ª Cicular and the
airport is clearly signposted.
Car Parking
P1 and P2 are short-term car parks with direct access to the terminal,
P1 is located near Departures and P2 is next to Arrivals area, and
P3 is a long-term outdoor car park. The short and long-term car
parks are located to the right of the terminal near the entrance
to the airport. A free airport bus shuttle service links the car
parks and the airport terminal. Car
Hire
Companies include A A Castanheira/Budget, Auro Rent, Auto
Jardim, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo and Sixt,
with desks located in the Arrivals area. Transport
to the city
The Carris AeroBus
(telephone number: (21) 361 3000 or 9662 98558) departs every 20
minutes daily 0700-2100 hrs, to the city centre with a journey time
of approximately 20 minutes, and the Cais do Sodré
rail station. A 1-day ticket costs €2.75 and includes
further transport for that day on all trams, buses and metros.
A 3-day ticket costs €5.65. The AeroBus is
free for TAP passengers, on presentation of used
boarding passes when arriving and flight tickets when travelling
to the airport. Carris’ local buses 5, 8, 22, 44, and 83 also
service the airport daily 0600–2130 hrs, while bus 45 runs
until 0115 with a journey time of approximately 20-30 minutes and
a single ticket costs €1 and a day ticket costs €2.35.
Road Taxi
Taxis are available 24 hours a day. The average taxi fare to the
city centre is €10-17 with a journey time of 15-30 minutes.
The airport tourist information office also sells set fare vouchers
for taxi rides to all areas of the city, which are normally more
expensive.
Bus
The CARRIS AeroBus no.91 runs to the city centre
with a journey time of 20 minutes and to the Cais do Sodré
railway station.A Scotturb airport shuttle bus also operates to
Estoril and Cascais and tickets are available from the driver.

There are no hotels at the airport but nearby hotels include the
Radisson SAS Hotel Lisboa (telephone number: (0)21 004 5000), the
