Hello! I am typing this from the beautiful Winter Palace/Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg Russia!
We got here safely, thank the Lord, on Tuesday afternoon. It was a long two days to get here, and we've all been dealing with some jet lag, but we've gotten some good stuff in so far. We had a 3 1/2 hour bus tour yesterday of the city....we got out and took some pictures. At one of our stops some of us got to sit with a bear cub that some Russian people had chained to the embankment wall. He was really cute, but I didn't like that he was chained up. And when he got a little "fussy" with one of us, his owners started hitting him. Not something you would see on most streets in the U.S., but then again, they are inventive here, when it comes to getting income going. After the tour we hung out near our hotel. Today we got in smaller groups and have gone to the Hermitage museum and had lunch at a Russian restaurant on Nevsky Prospekt.
I'm having a terrific time so far. My group is really cool - some good people. My roommate's name is Amy Smith. She's cool, we've already had some good conversations. The hotel rooms we are staying in are small but clean. Taking a shower was interesting....I can explain more on that later...:O) Several of us in the group have at least some experience with the Russian language so far...many don't. But so far, we're getting along okay.
We have a lot packed into our two weeks here in the once-capital of Russia. Tomorrow we will go see Peterhof, a summer palace of the tsars...and in the evening we will go to the ballet to see The Nutcracker. I'm really psyched. The weather could not be better here. I'm glad we're hitting this city before it gets cold.
I hope that you all are having a good week and are doing well. I have so much more to tell, already, but my time is limited on this computer. I should be able to hop on the internet every few days...hopefully.
Take care everyone and God Bless!
