A yellow fevervaccination certificate is requisite of visitors
arriving from infected areas.
A cholera vaccination certificate is a condition
of entry if arriving or having passed through the infected area.
Vaccination against typhoid
is recommended.
Food and Drink
Water should be considered as being potentially contaminated. Water
used for consumption, making ice or brushing teeth should be boiled
or sterilised.
Milk is not pasteurised and must be boiled. Powdered or tinned milk
is available and is recommended, but be certain that it is reconstituted
with pure water. Avoid the dairy products which are likely to have
been made from unboiled milk.
Consume only well-cooked meat and fish, especially served hot. Pork,
salad and mayonnaise may carry bigger risk. Vegetables should be
properly cooked and fruits should be peeled.
Other
risks
Vaccination against hepatitis A, B,
diphtheria and tuberculosis is
recommended. Japanese encephalitis, influenza,
dengue fever and visceral leishmaniasis
occur. Rh- blood is rare.
Health
Care
Health care facilities are good and doctors are well qualified.
Imported medicines are costly, but there are ample of locally produced
and manufactured medicines. Health insurance is recommended in all
cases.
