Patong
Beach
If you are bright lights, music and fun, head for Patong
Beach. Twenty years ago, Patong was a small fishing village
on one of the loveliest beaches in the world. Now its a rollicking
holiday resort, catering to all types and tastes.
Apart from an excellent range of restaurants you have a choice of beer-bars,
go-go bars, discotheques, transvestite
cabarets, pubs and a lot more.
For alternative entertainment you can night time
catapult bungy, go for a massage,
listen to music in a piano bar, or even tenpin
bowling under florescent lights! Patong's entertainment
goes from the sublime to the absurd, but if you simply want to hang
out and watch the world go by, there's no better place.
Karon Beach and Kata Beach
Nightlife here is not quite as extensive as Patong. Heading south,
Kata Beach has some excellent restaurants
offering Asian and International
food, with one of the best wine cellars
on Phuket at The Boathouse Wine and Grill.
Many hotels offer dinner with classical
Thai performances - these include: Marina Cottage,
Kata, and the Old Siam at the
Thavorn Palm Beach Resort on Karon beach.
If you just want to hang out with a drink and some good music, Charlie
Chaplins is a good place. Kata with its village atmosphere
is mainly a place to drink, eat and relax. Relax at Dino
Park in the Kata area, where good food
is served in a wonderful atmosphere. Adults and children can also
golf at the park's mini-golf, which is beautifully
designed for fun and entertainment.
Kamala Beach
For an incredible Las Vegas type show, a must
visit is Phuket Fantasea at Kamala Beach, where
Thai legends mix with pyrotechnics, acrobatics and dozens of elephants
for an amazing spectacle and theatrical experience. The front
of the theatre is styled after Angkor Wat and their is a comprehensive
shopping area selling good value local goods.
Rawai Beach
Moving further down the coast is Nai Harn and
Rawai. It's not rocking' but there are some good
restaurants with great style and ambiance.
Phuket Town
Phuket Town offers a more local scene with music
pubs like Timber Hut, Jamming
and The Candy Pub with live rock 'n'
roll and Thai food. An alternative are
the Thai-style karaoke "coffee shops".
Nightclubs where ladies in fancy dresses get up to sing Thai songs
while customers eat and drink and entice singers to join them
at their tables. Late night there are sometimes farcical skits
on stage and other types of entertainment.
Bang Tao Bay
Many of the upmarket and luxury hotels
are located around the Bang Tao creating a more
low key nightlife. The Laguna -
a complex of five luxury hotels linked by a shuttle service, is
fully self contained with restaurants, bars,
entertainment and leisure activities.
