Songkran
(Thai new year)
Songkran Festival is Thailand's most popular festival celebrating the Thai New Year and is the most ebullient festival
across the country.
This festival is held over 3 consecutive days from April 13th to 15th, and marks the start of the Buddhist New Year and marks the start of the Buddhist New Year.
This festival has
changed gradually
over the centuries from a
completely
religious
event where Buddha images were bathed in water to purify them, into
a bigger celebration of water. Prepare for the fun and get a soaking because a lot of water is splashed over everybody on the streets. Songkrans originals
customs are still remained, where younger Thais pay their respects
to monks and their elders by sprinkling their hands with scented
water.
Full Moon Party (Koh
Pha Ngan)
The Fullmoon Party is held once a month at Haad Rin Beach, Koh Pha Ngan. There are more than 10,000 people
attending this unforgettable and impressive party beside the 1-kilometre sandy beach.
The party starts from dusk till dawn and even onto the next day. Western and Thai
DJ's play sounds to cater for all party goers tastes ranging
from Hip-Hop, Trance, House, Garage and Jungle. Foreign tourists
and Thais celebrate this worldwide renowned event together.

Loi Krathong
The traditional Loi Krathong Festival has been celebrated for centuries throughout Thailand.
This historic ceremony is believed to have its origin in the
13th Century during the Sukhothai period.
Loy Krathong Festival will be celebrated on the full moon night of November. All Thais
and foreign visitors will go to rivers and waterways to float a Krathong in order to say thank
you for the life-giving water and
pay respect to nature.
Loy means float and Krathong is the name of a small artistic boat
made from banana leaves and flowers. Thais normally cut their hair and nails and put them into each Krathong, believing that this will take away all bad luck. Each Krathong will also contains a candle
and
lighted incense sticks which is believed by Thais that if the candle is still burning
as the Krathong floats away, this will bring you good luck in the
coming year.
The Fisherman's
Village Festival - Bophut
The 2nd yearly Fisherman's Village Festival will be held over 5 days from
the August 22nd to 26th.
A lot of good quality live music which include rock, popular and Thai rock
will be performed by local bands and artists from Bangkok. Food tents provide
a good selection of more reasonable and
yummy
food provided by many local
hotels, makes this festival 1 of the best events on the Samui
calendar.
