The Yemeni
Riyal is the official currency in Yemen.
1 Yemeni Riyal (YR) = 100 fils.
Notes
are in denominations of YR 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000.
Coins are in denominations of 5 and 10 fils.
Credit & debit cards
Cards usually have limited acceptance, American
Express and Diners Club are the most widely accepted. It is advised
to check with your credit and debit card company for details of
merchant acceptability and other services which may be available.
Travellers cheques
Travellers cheques can be exchanged at some banks and hotels. To
avoid additional exchange rate charges, please take travellers cheques
in PoundsSterling.

Local currency can be easily reconverted. There
are very few ATM's, and United States dollars in cash are the easiest
convertible currency.

Currency restrictions
The import and export of local currency is unlimited up to YR 2000
for residents, and prohibited for non residents.
There are no restrictions on the import of foreign currencies however
amounts exceeding US $3000 should be declared on arrival. Export
of foreign currency is allowed up to the amount imported and declared.
Banking hours
Banks are open from Saturday to Wednesday 8.30 am to 12.00 pm, Thursdays
8.00 am to 11.30 pm.
